PTFE (Teflon) release materials are used on suitable uPVC welding equipment to help prevent softened PVC from sticking to the welding surface. When replacing a release covering, match the material and fitting arrangement to the machine specification.

Identify the machine and platen

Record the welding machine’s make and model, then identify the platen shape and the area being covered. MRP’s uPVC welding range includes release materials for flat, V-shaped and combined welding platens. The correct dimensions and arrangement depend on the equipment.

Check whether you need tape or a sheet

Do not assume every welding surface uses an adhesive tape. The machine may specify a release sheet or fabric held by a particular fixing arrangement. Check how the existing covering is fitted before choosing a replacement.

Provide the current material code, dimensions and photographs where possible. Include any cut-outs or shaped sections that must match the platen.

Match the material to operating conditions

Use the equipment specification and the current product data sheet to check suitability. Temperature resistance, construction and attachment method should be confirmed for the selected grade. Avoid applying a specification from one welding material to every product in the range.

Inspect the existing covering

Check for wear, damage or residue during the machine’s prescribed maintenance routine. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and replacement. A release covering should not be used to compensate for an unrelated machine-setting or maintenance problem.

Ask for help with identification

Before requesting a quotation, gather the machine model, existing material code, platen dimensions, fitting method and quantity. MRP can use these details to help identify the appropriate tape, fabric or release sheet for the application.
